XMind -- Social Brainstorming and Mind Mapping

I'm a novelist and short story writer. I recently discovered Xmind and find it's the perfect tool for managing the prework for a project. I have characters, beginning, middle, ending and locations topics. Each has a subtopic for specific items. What I love is that I can hyperlink, say, a character name in XMind to the Word doc with the character history and details. XMind becomes like a desktop from which I can get to every document related to a project in one click. It's a fantastic tool.
I'm running XMind on a Dell PC running Vista and an EEEPC 900 notebook running XP. Works flawlessly in both environments.
Congratulations XMind folk, Great design work.

Maybe the solution for big trees is to create multiple sheets in the same workbook - but i am note sure the hyperlink work in this case.

I forgot to answer Rob's question. I typically have 40 to 70 nodes, more than half of which are hyperlinked, either to files, (.doc, jpg, excel, etc) or other XMinds.
I have floating nodes that hyperlink to folders where research and stuff is stored, so the main XMind becomes like a desktop for that project as I can get to every file relevant to a project from the main Xmind. So far, I haven't had any problems with nodes disappearing. Man, that would really throw me :(

Hi All,
Sorry about the delay in replying, I've been traveling. I'm happy to share an example of how I use XMind as a fiction writing tool, but I'm not sure how to upload the file. If someone can advise, I'll do it straight away.
Cheers,
Anthony

I had the same problem (map disappears, and one must close xmind and open it again to get it back) with 20 notes structures...

I have used Xmind for outlining articles and presentations and I really like its functionality. However, I have found it starts losing the plot when the tree become large. Bits of menus fail to appeas and at times the whole tree blanks out. This can be solved by saving and re-opening the map. I recently created a map with 200+ nodes and found this problem. How big are your novel outlines Anthony?

I have had the same idea for defining the design of a book. It's really interesting.
I will be glad if you share an exemple. Maybe it will give me ideas for mine.
Thanks

Really interested in how you are using this for book design. I have used Mindmaps for a while now and this app is great. I would be good if you were able to share an example without spoiling any book ideas that you have.

Cheers and good luck
